Denisa came to BDO with a reputation in mind, the kind built over years and passed between students who had heard good things. What she found when she arrived confirmed it, and what has kept her here since is something more personal: the team around her and the genuine support she has received to grow.
During her university years, Denisa heard consistently positive things about BDO, particularly about its collaborative environment and learning opportunities. Joining the firm was a chance to see whether those impressions held up.
What has kept me here is the team I work with and the support I have received for my professional development. I have always felt encouraged to grow, and I truly appreciate the opportunities to learn new skills and take on new challenges
For Denisa, approaching work thoughtfully means not stopping at completing what has been asked, but considering how it could be done better and what comes next.
For me, "thinking beyond" means not simply focusing on completing a task, but also thinking about how it can be done better and what impact it may have. In my day-to-day work, I try to ask questions, look at things from different perspectives, and find more efficient ways of solving problems. It also means being proactive and thinking about what might be needed next, rather than only reacting to what is asked of me
One moment in Denisa's first year stood out above the rest, a moment when she felt she was losing her footing and someone chose to stop and help.
I would like to mention Irina Stanciu, Director of the Accounting Department. There was a moment when I felt that I was struggling to keep up with everything I was responsible for, and I started to feel that I was losing control. Irina took the time to sit with me, explain the things I was struggling to understand, and guide me through them step by step. She also showed me new things and shared her experience with me. What really made a difference was that she took time from her own responsibilities to support and guide me. Her patience and willingness to help gave me more confidence and helped me overcome that difficult period.
Early in her time at BDO, Denisa's team faced a situation that required them to move quickly without compromising on quality. A new client's financial statements had not been submitted on time, and the team had to act fast.
We had to put some of our other activities on hold and prioritize this task to make sure the financial statements were completed and submitted as soon as possible. This also meant working beyond our normal hours. The most rewarding part was seeing that, through our teamwork and extra effort, we managed to complete everything correctly and within the required timeframe. For me, this was a good example of going the extra mile and doing what was right for the client, without compromising on quality.
Denisa's motivation is straightforward and deeply personal: knowing that what she does contributes to something larger than herself.
What motivates me is knowing that my work makes a difference and that I can contribute to the team's results. I also enjoy learning, developing my skills, and seeing myself improve and become more confident in what I do.
Her advice for anyone considering BDO reflects the same values she has built her experience around: invest in relationships. The professional services industry is people-oriented, and building genuine connections with colleagues, managers and clients can make a meaningful difference in how a career develops.
